Conference Report from Rachel

Before heading off on the first half of her Sabbatical, Rachel (District Chair) recorded a video message to summarise what happened at Methodist Conference this year. It lasts around 12 minutes and is posted on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/0p9Plbh7xeU

A Poem by our DSO

Together in a Better World?
by Margaret

Unseen foe brought globe to its knees.

Took away our rights to freedom,

social distancing, staying home,

no saying goodbye to loved ones.

A sadder, anxious, frightening world.

Will we remember the good things?

Chatting and helping our neighbours,

clapping for N.H.S. workers,

at the frontline of saving lives.

A more caring though anxious world.

Will we recall the quiet roads,

the clear air, birdsong, country walks,

the beauty of nature that haunts,

stirs memories of different times?

Forgotten dreams in today’s world.

Will we return to hectic lives,

no time to think, pause to reflect?

Or learn from and change to accept

creating new ways of living

together in a better world?

Cash for Curls

Are you looking forward to finally going to the hairdressers and seeing your locks fall down at the end of “lockdown”?

At least, like most of us you will have saved some cash by not having your usual hair do.  How about donating some, or all of it to help make up the shortfall afflicting charities across the world during the Covid 19 crisis?

At Beckminster, we are inviting members to join our “Cash for Curls” Appeal by making a one off donation to ALL WE CAN. Maybe this idea would appeal to your congregation too!

You can do this by donating on line on their website; www.allwecan.org.uk  or by phone  020 7467 5132
Or, of course, a collection could be organised in a variety of other ways.

Greetings to you all!

District Children's Support Fund

The funding allocated specifically to the support of children and families in the District - particularly those experiencing some form of deprivation - is still open to accept applications at the moment.  Are there projects you might consider which could offer support even during the lockdown?

The maximum amount of any claim is £500 and a Church can apply at any time using the attached form and send it electronically to Tim Lorimer who will process your application and give a decision within six weeks of receipt. The application will need the support of the hosting Church and circuit superintendent. Church’s cannot apply for retrospective funding.
We would hope that individuals and groups that have contributed in the past to the Holiday Fund will still wish to do so knowing that there money will still be used for Children’s Projects.  For more information please contact Tim Lorimer   on lorimertim@yahoo.co.uk 07971899084.
