Scam warning

A church member was contacted this morning by email SUPPOSEDLY from their minister, claiming they needed urgent, discreet purchase of vouchers. They continued to pretend to be the minister whilst guiding the person to purchase £500 of gift vouchers.   This is a SCAM - they then ask for the details (pictures) of the vouchers to be emailed to them and steal the money.  Thankfully this was avoided because the person contacted their minister to query such large sums...

Can I urge you all to pass this message on and to be clear with all church members that someone is playing on the trust relationship of church members to their ministers in a very cynical way.  No minister would / should ever ask for such sums from an individual no matter how desperate or urgent the message may appear to be.

Revd Alan Combes

Choirs wanted

This Christmas, we want to bring together a mass choir to create awareness of Action for Children’s work and our Secret Santa campaign. The choir will consist of our Welsh young carers choir, local choirs (adult and children), choirs of supporters, children, and young people that the charity has helped, etc and celebrities.

We'll be creating a video of all the choirs singing the same carol. And we'd love it if all the choirs can dress up as Santa (could be just the hat) and record themselves singing the same carol.

To register your interest, contact Lauren.Young2@actionforchildren.org.uk by 14 October. Thanks.

Blessings and peace,

Warm Spaces

All churches will be aware of the cost-of-living and energy crisis facing households this winter and will want to respond.  For the majority of churches that response may take the form of prayer, listening and conversation. However some will want to explore offering their building as a “warm space”, perhaps in partnership with other local community groups.
The Connexional Team have drawn together lots of information here: https://www.methodist.org.uk/our-work/our-work-in-britain/evangelism-growth/respond-to-the-energy-crisis-this-winter/
The District Resourcing Mission Committee, meeting on 18th October, will be looking at how “warm spaces” may be financially supported using money from the District Advance Fund.

Synod talk link

Our main speaker was the Rev’d Al Barrett, an Anglican priest serving an LEP in Hodge Hill, East Birmingham.  Al is co-author with Ruth Harley of the book “Being Interrupted: Re-imagining the Church’s mission from the outside, in”.  His talk can be found by clicking on the link below:

Your District needs you!

We are still searching for a Secretary to Synod to take over from Andrew Beattie, who has valiantly agreed to continue until someone comes forward. If you are unsure about what the role entails or would like to find out more (or even volunteer!) please message Andrew Beattie on synsec28@gmail.com. This is a voluntary position but assistance would be offered by the District Administrator. We would be delighted to hear from you!
